Meditative States of Learning - Alizarin Capeland

One of my favorite activities is to go to a museum. Hot tip: a museum is a great first date option because if you like each other, you can comfortably talk about yourselves and the art. If it doesn't go well then the silence is not too awkward because you are at a museum enjoying art! Anyway, I will do it with whoever will go with me and even just by myself because I love to learn new things. I find that I enter a sort of meditative state while at a museum of any type. While in Greenland, the main attraction that I wanted to see was the Art Museum of Nuuk. While small, it was fascinating to see how a new culture approaches art as well as how non-Greenlandic people painted Greenland.

However, while on this trip, I realized how different my brothers and I are in this aspect. While they are younger than I am, I enjoyed museums at their age but they cannot stand them. Each time we would visit a museum while on the trip, they would groan and find somewhere to sit while playing a game or talking to one another. I noticed that they could not reach the same meditative state that I did and could not appreciate the culture in the same way. Still, they liked the culture around us and were interested in the houses, fishermen, and sights around us while we were out on the town. They wanted to go to the grocery stores and see the odd selection of items available. We both found an appreciation for new cultures but in our own, unique ways.
