Journeys in Dungeons & Dragons - Alizarin Capeland
After a long break from playing, I finally managed to join a new campaign and get back into playing Dungeons & Dragons. I think that, of all activities, this roleplaying tabletop game is the perfect embodiment of what we have learned in this class. After all, the average game has a group of adventurers going on an epic journey and learning about themselves and others. Not only do these characters learn about themselves, but players get to connect with friends or strangers in a way that is not possible in any other context. People often feel more comfortable when disguised as other characters and will let go, growing into a new personality that is both entertaining and enlightening.
As for me, I am planning my own campaign in a way that forces me to stretch my creativity and planning skills. As someone who runs a game, you have to keep track of a lot of moving parts while making sure the players are interested and engaged. It will take me a long time to feel prepared enough to start with real people but I am excited to learn a new skill that helps make everyone's weeks a little more exciting.
