Gracie Kay Close- What is a pilgrim?

As we read the American Camino, much of Professors own interpretations of such a pilgrimages were released. I found it interesting to read on his interpretations of pilgrims and what that looks like in a more modern context.

In the beginning of the book, the term pilgrim is defined to be derived from ritual practice within the same culture, language, and practice. The modern world seems to contradict that when coming across all kinds of different people is his treks across the Appalachian trail. Personally, I have family in that part of the country and I know just how diverse Appalachia is but also the culture that is there amongst all the people. Comparing professors journey from the Camino de Santiago to the Appalachian trail, I think it is interesting to view them in such different cultures yet the same. Everyone who embarks on such are pilgrims. They have a community within that fact alone, and it unifies them in such diverse places. This concept discussed in the book was the cover the fact this goes beyond a defined term, and that anyone could be a pilgrim along these paths.
