Somewhere I Have Never Travelled

"To grow up in the  fullest  sense, what I have called spiritually, the  poem  suggests that  Gilgamesh  must  learn  to  see himself not  as preeminent  among  men,  but  as  part  of  a  larger  whole,  ruled  by  forces  often beyond his ability to control. "

This is a quote that we discussed in class and I wanted to dissect it a little more. In my own interpretation, the greatest forces among men is that of a higher power. No matter what one believes, the greater powers at work in one's life is that of something we can not see but feel. In the quote, Gilgamesh is suggested to release tangible control on himself. To allow his sense of self to be developed beyond of what he can understand but of what those at a higher place can control for him. For this is the key to understanding that word- self. Once he can do such, he will not only be released of torment but spiritually free,
