Gracie Kay Close- Art and Journey
In class today we had a guest speaker, Christiana, and she discussed her journeys on the Camino. She expressed how she was an artist and very much on the straight and narrow that one day when she decided to do this, she herself was shocked. I really enjoyed her journey told through the art she created.
I think it is interesting to take many paths and experience many journeys, and she discussed how there are so many different paths and there are so many unexpected blocks across all of our journeys. In her lecture she showcased her art, and certain techniques she used in illustrating her own personal journey. Whether that was obvious in her artwork or not. As I research this similar concept for my term paper, I found it interesting to see her own personal journey showcased in her art. The techniques themselves show a methodology and pathway to the true meaning she was conveying. Another concept I am researching is the time in which an artist is at in life, to what they are creating. She herself said that her first camino did not have the ending she wanted. When she was creating art, she used muddling and glazing techniques to show the confusion she experienced across the trail. Once she realized it was important to go back there was some subtle shifts in her work to show such. For example in some of her works she discusses a final "glaze" of the camino with many layers and a final finisher of paint. The art she was creating also shifted along her own journey.
Christianas lecture showcased personal journey and the reflection of artistic expression. She elaborated on where she came from to the evolution she has experienced in her own life following the decision to trek the Camino (multiple times).
