Caitlyn King - I/Me/Myself

I/Me/Myself is a song written by Will Wood. It primarily discusses his relationship with societal gender roles and his exploration of his evolving identity.

The first verse details how Wood is concerned that he will continue to 'whittle [his] bones' until in pursuit of new things, shedding necessary parts of himself instead of things that are dragging him down. He feels like he's killing himself a little, drinking his tea 'with formaldehyde' a chemical used for embalming. In the chorus, Wood wishes that he could 'be a girl' so that he could be as emotionally open and vulnerable as he wants to as a man. Wood also sarcastically remarks that the audience can 'taxonomize' their differences. He's trying to promote the idea that people can simply be themselves without needing to be categorized based on minute details.

Towards the latter half of the song, Wood exclaims that, 'I am quantum physics, my witness bring me into existence.' Wood's personal identity is left to the interpretation of whoever is there to witness it, and it only exists due to that witness. But in witnessing it, they miss the nuance within the relationship. In quantum physics, the observer effect describes where a particle can behave like a wave, existing in multiple points at once until observed.

The whole song serves as an almost satirical explanation of Wood's coping with limiting gender norms, and how the search for labels and categories doesn't necessarily help anyone, but rather limits them too.
