A Jesus Story? - Alizarin Capeland

Once, I heard someone say that every story is a "Jesus Story"

  1. A person, usually a man, is chosen to be a great leader of the people and must fulfill his purpose
  2. That person is persecuted or faces trials in order to complete their goal
  3. They reach the climax of their goal and must sacrifice something or themselves in order to fulfill their purpose
  4. There is a promise for more and/or a tragic end for the hero
That was the basic gist of their argument and now that I think about it, I think it also lines up the hero's journey. After all, the steps boil down to a similar cycle that is described in A Hero with a Thousand Faces. In fact, Jesus himself goes through the hero's journey as described in the book. The only difference is that Jesus always knew his purpose and was divinely ordained for his purpose. Therefore, his known/unknown is based on when he began to pursue his minitries with his followers. It was interesting to make the connection between this random saying that someone said once that I have pondered several times and then heard about it in this class.
