American Indian Tribes vs. Adam + Eve
Christian Callaghan
During class today we talked deeply about the Pueblo American Indian tribes and their vision on how our world started in contrast to the Christian religion. In the Pueblo American Indian styled homes, the houses were built into the sides of hills and were fully constructed using clay. During this construction the tribes made Kiva's and these are essentially small spaces within the area that house a thing called a Sipapu. Sipapu's are small holes within the Kiva's that hold extremely significant spiritual value. The holes are essentially spaces that were used to travel between worlds by the first humans that roamed the world. The interesting thing is that the Sipapu's that appear on our world today are not the first in their existence and this is because we are actually on our 4th world. The world we see around is actually the 4th iteration of a world that the Pueblo American Indians lived on. The reason that there have been so many worlds is because of human's hubris and the fact that every time we are on a world we end up destroying it. Once the individuals came out of their hole, they would be spread amongst the 4 cardinal directions which was another important spiritual aspect of the American Indian lifestyle. I thought that this was a very interesting spiritual and religious belief especially as it rivals directly with the immensely popular Christian ideology of the beginning of the human race with Adam and Eve. These two religious beliefs are extremely different especially seeing as one ideology believes in the creation of mankind being through one generation and the other believes in the continuation of mankind through multiple.
